Toe-Up Socks: "Vanilla Extract" (2 weeks)
Sundays, October 14 and 21, 12-2pm • $62
Teacher: Cassondra Rizzardi
Ready to try toe-up socks for the first time? New to socks altogether? Looking for a workhorse sock recipe that you can customize for a perfect fit? This is the class for you! Join designer Cassondra Rizzardi to cover all the basics of toe-up sock construction, including a modified version of Judy’s Magic Cast-On and German short rows, and finish class with skills and a pattern you can return to time and again.
Participants should be familiar with the following: knitting, purling, simple increases and decreases, and knitting in the round (using double-points, magic loop, or a 9” circular needle).
• One skein of fingering weight yarn (100 grams), purchased from Spun
• 32”/40” size US1 circular needle. (Note: The instructor notes that students may use size US1 double-points or two 9" size US1 circulars to make their socks if they so choose, rather than using a long circular for magic loop, but she does recommend the magic loop method, which simplifies the toe-up cast-on. If you're not familiar with magic loop, here's your chance to learn how it works!)
• Removable stitch markers
• Darning or tapestry needle
• Optional: 25 grams of fingering weight yarn for contrasting toes, heel, and cuff (may be stash yarn)
Maximum number of students: 7
